Greenpeace Protest @ Mount Rushmore

In a fantastic, and actually very clever, publicity stunt action Greenpeace unveiled a 65 feet tall by 35 feet wide banner on the Mount Rushmore site today.

The action was taken to mark the G8 meeting in Italy, and to bring attention to the issue of Global Warming. Hopefully conservation of cultural heritage will not be drawn into the inevitable charges against these activists, although I somehow suspect it will – which is a shame… big picture folks.. without a planet, who really cares what we do with the cultural heritage!! (And besides the climbers used the same routes as the those established for cleaning the monument).

The banner included an unfinished portrait of Obama and read:

“America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming”.
